Defence Committee Says Government Yet To Tackle Concerns On Covenant

Posted on September 25, 2019

The Government has yet to tackle major concerns raised by the Commons Defence Committee in its previous reports on the Armed Forces Covenant, according to its latest update.

The committee is reporting ongoing problems with military health care, accommodation, pensions, school admissions and the treatment of veterans.

Its chairman, Dr Julian Lewis MP, said: “The setting up of the new Office for Veterans’ Affairs is cause for encouragement, and that’s why we are renewing our pressure on such issues as accommodation, education, the families of Commonwealth volunteers.”

A Government spokesperson said:

“The new Office for Veterans’ Affairs will ensure the whole of government pulls together to deliver the life-long support our veterans deserve.”
