Perry’s agent Tim Hancock said the writer, who was also behind Hi-de-Hi! and You Rang M’Lord?, had died at his home on Sunday after a short illness. He said he had “never met anyone… with as big a heart as Jimmy”. Ian Lavender, who played Private Pike in Dad’s Army, said Perry’s death was “the end of an era”.
