97-year-old told daughter she couldn’t live without her beloved husband who had died aged 101 just hours earlier.

A devoted Coventry couple who were inseparable in life have died within hours of each other.

Clifford Hartland passed away on July 29 at the age of 101 and his adoring 97-year-old wife Marjorie followed him 14 hours later – on their 76th wedding anniversary.

Their daughter Christine said her mum had ‘‘died of a broken heart’’.

The couple spent most of their married life in Coventry where Clifford worked for Morris Engines and they raised a family.

But the Coventry car worker had an incredible war story and was one of only four survivors from his regiment who worked as POWs on the infamous Burma railway.
